Satellite builder Orbital ATK has received approval from the USA’s Federal Trade Commission for a proposed sale to aerospace company Northrop Grumman for $7.8 billion.

The new business will now be known as Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems. The deal is expected to close after business on June 6^th.  The EU approved the deal back in February.

Orbital ATK is based at Dulles, Virginia, near Washington DC. Orbital ATK is a regular client of NASA and is one of two company’s used to fly cargo to the International Space Station. Orbital and ATK themselves came together in a merger in 2015.

Orbital ATK is a regular supplier to the commercial satellite sector, and has recently supplied satellites to SES (SES-16), YahSat (Al Yah 3), Avanti (Hylas-4), Thailand (Thaicom 6 and 8), DirecTV and others. It is currently building Intelsat’s Galaxy 30 craft, as well as Eutelsat’s 5 West B craft.
