DirecTV adds Cowboy Channel
January 2, 2018
By Chris Forrester
Proving that there are still some untapped sub-genres, the Cowboy Channel has launched on DirecTV (Channel 603). The channel was already available to DISH subscribers in the US, and most cable MSOs.
The channel has been around for some time. Initially launched in 1979 as the National Christian Network, it morphed into FamilyNet back in 1988 under the ownership of – now disgraced – evangelical preacher Jerry Falwell.
Relaunched as The Cowboy Channel in June 2017 it features Western sports, rodeo coverage and even beauty pageants (for the Miss Rodeo America prize).
Movies are also featured, not least the John Wayne Theatre, with movies featuring John Wayne and introduced by the Wayne family.
