Hulu, Magnolia content deal
January 24, 2017
Hulu and Magnolia Pictures have announced a new output licensing agreement that will grant Hulu the pay one window streaming rights to films released by the major film distributor.
Through the deal, the films will become available to stream exclusively on Hulu following their theatrical run. Future releases will begin streaming on Hulu in the second half of 2017.
Over the past few years, Magnolia has released documentaries including the Academy Award-winning Man on Wire, Food, Inc., Jiro Dreams of Sushi, The Queen of Versailles and Blackfish; as well as acclaimed foreign films such as Force Majeure and recent Oscar-nominees A Royal Affair and A War. The distributor is also known for audience favourites including Melancholia, Let the Right One In, 13 Assassins, Tangerine and Viva.
“As we continue investing in the most valued and sought-after content, films are essential to that mix,” said Craig Erwich, SVP and Head of Content, Hulu. “Magnolia Pictures continuously releases thought-provoking and award winning titles that we know our viewers will love.”
