Movistar Plus unveils new editorial structure
May 18, 2026
Movistar Plus, the Spanish pay-TV platform, has announced it is “entering a new phase” under the leadership of Alfonso Gómez Palacio “to accelerate growth, strengthen its editorial capabilities, and consolidate its role as one of the key differentiating assets in Movistar’s value proposition”.
The new editorial structure will revolve around two major entertainment pillars: content and sports. The first includes films, series, documentaries and new original production formats. The second will remain one of Movistar Plus’s key differentiating pillars.
The Content division will be led by Juan Andrés García Ropero who joined Movistar Plus in 2018, has extensive experience in the audiovisual sector and has played a significant role in recent years in the evolution of the platform’s sports content offering. Under his leadership, the Content division will be organised into four units to strengthen editorial capabilities and boost original production: Originals Movistar Plus, led by Bruna Hernando, integrating original Fiction and Non-Fiction Series; Spanish Cinema, led by Guillermo Farré; Editorial Development/Acquisitions, led by Iñigo Trojaola; and Entertainment, led by Hugo Tomás.
Meanwhile, Enric Rojas will continue heading Business Management and Sports, where he will seek to keep strengthening Movistar Plus’s sports offering.
“Movistar Plus is entering a new phase with a clear ambition: to grow, invest in content, and offer more and better entertainment services to our customers,” said Gómez Palacio (pictured).
Gómez Palacio emphasised that the platform “will continue to be a key part of Telefónica and Movistar’s convergent value proposition,” because “entertainment, sports, and differentiated content are becoming increasingly important in customer relationships”.
The CEO of Movistar Plus also added that “the company aims to continue proving that it competes through a distinctive proposition based on Spanish talent, creative ambition, industrial capabilities, and sustained investment in projects that create value for customers and drive the entire Spanish audiovisual sector”.
In Q1, the platform added 86,000 net customers and accelerated year-on-year growth in its customer base. With these results, Movistar Plus has reached 3.9 million paying subscribers.
