The pilot for the reboot will be helmed by Ryan Coogler, director of films including Black Panther and Creed, and whose Sinners movie – which he also wrote – has been nominated for a record number of Oscars at this year’s ceremony.
Danielle Deadwyler (pictured) – who has starred in films including Carry-On, The Harder They Fall and The Piano Lesson – has already been named as the first co-lead, whilst the official description for the reboot says: “Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena”.
It would seem the reboot is taking place in the same universe as the first run of The X-Files, which would leave the door open for appearances from David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson who were the original stars of the series.
The X-Files premiered in 1993 and ran for nine seasons until 2002 before it was revived in 2016 for two more seasons. There has also been two movies.
