Netflix rolls put real-time voting

January 20, 2026

Netflix has rolled out real time voting on select live events. The option will debut on Star Search premiering today [January 20th].

Viewers watching the event live on a TV or a streaming device will be able to vote using their remote; or by tapping the screen if watching on the Netflix mobile app. Real-time voting is not available while watching on web browsers.

Users can submit one rating per Netflix profile per performance, and once submitted, the vote is final. Voting will happen multiple times per Star Search episode, with rounds opening during select moments throughout the show — and all votes build toward the live finale, where the audience helps choose the winner. Voting prompts appear only during designated windows, and Netflix warns its viewers that if they rewind, pause for too long, or join late, they risk missing the limited voting window.

Netflix noted that it first began testing an early version of the voting experience on Dinner Time Live with David Chang, and learned “how members appreciated the seamless and integrated ways they could participate in the series”.

“Whether you’re voting on your own or making it a watch party with family and friends, each profile gets one vote that impacts how the show — and its contestants — progresses. Star Search is just the first of more moments where members like you can influence live events together from wherever you’re watching,” Netflix said in a press release.
