Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE is set to launch a new television channel later this year, expanding its portfolio beyond established services such as La 1 and La 2. The new channel will be dedicated exclusively to cultural content and is expected to begin broadcasting in June.

According to the broadcaster, the channel will be structured around five main pillars, with documentaries playing a central role. To strengthen this offering, RTVE plans to expand its existing cooperation agreement with the Franco-German cultural channel ARTE, while also leaving the door open to other forms of partnership. Performing arts will be another key focus, with particular emphasis on theatre and stage productions.

The schedule will also showcase Spanish cinema, drawing on RTVE’se catalogue of co-produced films and a range of curated thematic seasons. Classical music and opera will form another cornerstone of the channel, featuring prominently the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir, alongside productions from Spain’s leading opera houses. In addition, the channel aims to provide space for emerging artistic expressions and new cultural trends, positioning itself as a platform for both tradition and innovation within Spain’s cultural landscape.

RTVE recently underwent a branding refresh.
