The EchoStar 26 satellite is under construction by Lanteris Space Systems (formerly Maxar Space Systems) based in Palo Alto, California).

EchoStar 26 is a new, high-power geostationary satellite that Lanteris is building for its pay-TV system, DISH Network, with a scheduled delivery in 2028. Its purpose is to provide DTH satellite TV service across the US and Puerto Rico, using a multi-spot beam payload. The satellite will be built on Lanteris’ SSL-1300 platform.

The heavyweight satellite (about 6,800 kgs) is designed for dual orbital performance making it reasonably straightforward for the craft to be relocated to a different orbital position.

EchoStar says the satellite will be launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket during 2028. The satellite will have a designed life expectancy of at least 15 years suggesting that EchoStar is planning for a long life for its Dish Network viewers.

EchoStar currently owns or leases 10 satellites in its fleet and its two primary Ku-band craft are positioned at 121 degrees West and 105 degrees West. EchoStar leases capacity on a number of other satellites including Al Yah 3, Telestar 19 Vantage, Eutelsat 65 West and Jupiter 3.
