July 9th marks 40 years since the iconic Tron movie was first released in cinemas. The fan-favourite film, along with its sequel Tron: Legacy (2010), and spin-off animated series Tron: Uprising all are available to stream on Disney+ for those seeking to celebrate the anniversary.
The Tron films were truly revolutionary in the history of computer animation, capturing the imaginations of audiences with their highly original concept and futuristic visuals. Starring the legendary Jeff Bridges, who is soon returning to Disney+ in thriller series The Old Man, Tron remains an impressive sci-fi adventure to this day. A third movie has been heavily rumoured in recent years.
The franchise has spawned its own theme park roller coaster ride. Known as the Tron Lightcycle Power Run, it is a stand out attraction at Shanghai Disneyland and will also open at Magic Kingdom in Florida’s Walt Disney World later this year.
There are also a number of Tron video games, as well as celebrated arcade game first released by Midway in 1982 to coincide with the movie premiere.
