From Branislav Pekic in Rome
TIM Italia has launched ten times faster FTTH ultra broadband connections via the XGS-PON network, compared to the current GPON technology.
The Magnifica service provides speeds of up to 10 Gbps in download and 2 Gbps in upload.
However, it is available only on a trial basis for new users at a cost of €49.90/month with free activation, while calls are on a pay-as-you-go basis.
The service is being tested in eleven cities (Milan, Turin, Trento, Trieste, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples, Cagliari, Taranto and Brindisi) and the trials will last until February 27th 2022.
The offer includes free use of the 10 Gbps router with Wi-Fi 6 wireless connectivity, eight antennas and 4×4 MIMO for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.
Household members can simultaneously use different devices and watch entertainment content in HD, hold video conferences, play online games, as well as manage home automation through devices with voice assistance.
