European Cricket Championships FTA on SCN
September 16, 2019
English cricket fans can now watch highlights of the first ever European Cricket Championships on Sports Channel Network – the free to air channel available on Freeview, YouView and App - and follow the story of how Dutch champions Rotterdam became Kings of Europe.
Rotterdam beat the top German side Findorff in an action-packed final at La Manga, Spain, but it was the European Cricket League concept that was the real winner.
“There has never been a European-wide league of this nature and our strong desire to make the ECL the flagship competition in continental Europe came to fruition. The ECL team can boast vast experience of organising and promoting events of this nature to a global broadcast audience, and we are very proud of what we have achieved this week for cricketers all around Europe,” said Daniel Weston, founder of the ECL.
Held from July 29-31st, the event also featured champion teams from Dreux (France), Svanholm (Denmark), St. Petersburg (Russia), Brescia (Italy) and Cluj (Romania).
With players from 18 different countries, mostly outside the traditional cricket-playing strongholds, the teams were also enhanced by many talented cricketers with refugee backgrounds forced to flee to Europe.
Paul Coster, CEO of SCN said: “We want to be the channel that tells engaging stories about sport, and we think UK cricket fans will love the fact that a European Final involving Germany and Netherlands has just happened in cricket. You can also watch Cluj’s heroic Pavel Florin battling on for his team despite breaking his leg before the tournament began and some impressive newcomers with a wide range of backgrounds. “
