French telco Bouygues Telecom is testing 4K transmission using its ‘Miami’ hybrid set-top box. The Android-based box blends all incoming source signals from the basic IPTV head-end transmission as well as live DVB broadcasts, OTT and Internet on Demand source material. It can also handle 4K signals.
The 4K Ultra-HDTV signals are full 3840 x 2160 pixel in size, and the user will need a 4K display. The Miami box can also cope with game downloads, as well as Apps.
Bouygues developed the box with specialist iFeelSmart, a French start-up which is concentrating on software development for TV usage.
Beta-testers say the box is finally bringing the STB market to an era of modern design, and higher-speed “extremely fluid” functionality.
