Tablet TV – the television service specifically designed for tablets – could launch in the UK by the end of the year.
Gianluca Ferremi, VP Business Development at on-demand software solutions specialist Motive Television – has revealed that Tablet TV is currently undergoing certification by the UK’s Digital Television Group.
“No launch date has been set,” said Ferremi, noting that Motive Television and its partner Granite Television Corporation were aiming for a soft launch of the service in the San Francisco area in October 2014. “Before the holiday season,” he advised.
Subject to a successful launch there and completion of the UK certification process, the next step would be to look at a UK launch.
Data from Frank N. Magid Associates, a research-based strategy consulting firm, suggests there is extremely strong market demand for an untethered tablet live television solution. Magid’s research suggested that 33 per cent of all tablet owners consider themselves ‘very likely’ to use Tablet TV.
