Netflix in new French tax net
September 8, 2014
According to French daily Le Figaro, Netflix, which launches September 15th in France, will be hit by the extension of CNC tax on VoD being extended to overseas companies.
The Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC) has widened the 2% tax on VoD operators to those that are based abroad and have sales of more than €10m. The extension follows lobbying from French operators arguing that foreign competitors located outside the country, could escape the levy.
Netflix has said it is aiming for 10 per cent of French homes which would represent about €300 million of turnover.
