Internet entertainment streaming service Netflix has garnered its first Oscar nomination for The Square, a documentary about the 2011 revolution and ongoing strife in Egypt.
On January 12th Netflix won its first Golden Globe, with Robin Wright being awarded Best Actress in a Drama for her role in House of Cards.
Netflix acquired the streaming rights for The Square in November, after the documentary had already won awards at Sundance and the Toronto International Film Festival.
It has had a brief Oscar-qualifying theatrical run, and will première on Netflix on January 17th.
