Gengis AI studio opens in Singapore
January 26, 2026
Gengis AI, Singapore’s production-ready AI-enabled studio, has officially launched, facilitating the deployment of artificial intelligence inside real film, commercial and virtual production pipelines.
Founded by veteran producers and filmmakers Karen Seah and Tan Sian Ju – co-founders of Refinery Media – together with virtual production specialist Joel Lim, Gengis AI designs and operates AI-assisted workflows that integrate across development, scripting, on-set virtual production and post-production.
“AI promises transformation for media, yet most teams struggle to deploy it safely and effectively on set,” said Joel Lim, Co-Founder and CEO. “As working filmmakers, we prioritise what actually ships. Gengis AI workflows help productions iterate faster, take bolder creative risks and scale ambition, all while keeping human creators at the centre.”
Rather than offering standalone technology, the studio positions itself as a production partner, embedding AI into existing processes where it operates under real-world constraints such as crew workflows, delivery schedules and budget limits.
The studio focuses on two high-impact areas as starting points: AI-driven VFX generation for rapid creation and enhancement of digital assets, and intelligent virtual set extensions that optimise LED walls for dynamic, real-time environments. These capabilities help productions scale visual ambition, shorten iteration cycles and reduce post-production costs without disrupting established pipelines.
The studio draws on deep filmmaking experience and access to X3D Studio, Singapore’s largest independent LED virtual production volume, enabling it to validate AI-assisted workflows in live production environments rather than laboratory settings.
As part of its initial slate, Gengis AI is collaborating with Refinery Media on digital-first microdramas and short-form projects. Gengis AI contributes AI-assisted development, generative VFX tools for accelerated asset creation, and optimised virtual production on X3D Studio’s LED volume, including real-time set enhancements.
One of the first projects is an unscripted, vertical reimagining of Refinery Media’s established SupermodelMe IP. The project serves as a live production showcase for how AI can compress development timelines and expand visual scope while maintaining operational efficiency.
“As a production company, we want to reformat our IP quickly for new platforms, but we can’t keep hiring more people and we don’t have unlimited budgets,” added Karen Seah, Co-Founder of Refinery Media and Gengis AI. “An AI-enabled workflow lets us move faster and do more with what we have.”
As Singapore continues to position itself as a regional hub for AI and media innovation, Gengis AI aims to support hybrid human-AI production across the Asia-Pacific region, bridging rapid technological advances with the practical realities of commissioning, production and delivery.
