Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is getting a Netflix adaptation — with Anna Kendrick having signed on to direct.
Released in 2017, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was met with critical acclaim and became a New York Times bestseller. The story follows a young journalist’s long-awaited interview with Evelyn Hugo, an aging Hollywood starlet, who pulls back the curtain on her seven marriages. As she tells tales of Hollywood scandals, betrayals, and woe, she unveils shocking truths about her own life and the lives of everyone around her.
Kendrick will direct a script written by Liz Tigelaar (Little Fires Everywhere, Casual), with current revisions by Francesca Sloane (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Atlanta, Fargo). Reid (who also wrote the bestselling novel Daisy Jones & the Six which was adapted for a Prime Video series) will executive produce the adaptation.
Kendrick, who has starred in a number of Hollywood hits including Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Pitch Perfect, The Twilight Saga, Trolls and many more, made her directorial debut in 2023 with the well-received thriller Woman of the Hour, which was also a Netflix production.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is produced by Liza Chasin for 3dot Productions, Brad Mendelsohn for Circle Management + Productions (Daisy Jones & The Six), and David Hinojosa (Babygirl, Past Lives). There have been no casting announcements yet.
