Movistar Plus leaves Hispasat
December 13, 2017
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Telefónica’s pay-TV platform Movistar Plus has ceased distribution through Hispasat after more than 20 years.
Over recent months, the platform has been migrating its near 900,000 subscribers via Hispasat (30º West) to Astra 1 (19º East) or to FTTH. With this move, Telefónica aims to reduce costs. For Hispasat, it is bad news as now 10 of its transponders will be empty.
The pay-TV platform has been broadcasting via Hispasat over the last 20 years, first as Via Digital (1997), then as Digital Plus (2003) and finally as a Movistar Plus (2015) after the acquisition by Telefónica.
