Deutsche Telekom major losses, IPTV fares well
February 23, 2012
Deutsche Telekom has reported a €1.3 billion loss for 2011 due to a drop in demand in Europe. It would have been worse had it not picked up €3.2 billion in compensation for the collapse of the AT&T deal.
Deutsche Telekom did however further increase the number of subscribers to its IPTV service Entertain in 2011. The platform totalled 1.6 million connected households at the end of last year; with a growth of 34 per cent compared with the end of 2010. Strong demand was recorded for the satellite version which launched in September last year. From the 177,000 new Entertain customers in Q4 2011, 97,000 opted for Entertain Sat.
