Swisscom deploys Cisco for 4K Euro 2016
June 30, 2016
Swisscom TV2.0, the leader of the Swiss digital TV market with over 1.4 million subscribers, has deployed the Cisco Ultra High Definition (UHD) Live Encoding solution for its UHD viewing experience for the European Football Championship 2016.
With Cisco’s live encoding solutions in place, Swisscom can offer its subscribers immersive, 4K content, including live sports, available for 24-hour programming. Swisscom is using the Cisco UHD encoding solution that is part of the Cisco Virtual Video Processing platform (V2P). This solution helps to provide best-in-class live video picture quality as a strong technical foundation to the Swisscom UHD infrastructure.
“We decided to evaluate a number of encoders in a pilot phase to ensure that we made the right selection, with focus on picture quality and stability,” said Peter Fregelius, head of TV Development and Technology, Swisscom. “Cisco came out on top with excellent live UHD picture quality and delivering the stability we requested. We are very happy to collaborate with Cisco for our UHD live launch during the 2016 European Football Championship.”
