BBC Store uses MarkLogic database
June 7, 2016
MarkLogic, an operational and transactional Enterprise NoSQL database provider, has announced that BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the corporation, has built BBC Store using the MarkLogic database. MarkLogic’s database platform already underpins BBC iPlayer and parts of the BBC Sport website.
By building the BBC Store content store on the MarkLogic database, BBC Worldwide can deliver content quickly to BBC Store web pages. It also provides the enterprise-hardened features and scalability needed to support high request volumes.
Jonathan Green, Director, BBC Store, said, “BBC Store lets us offer lovers of BBC programmes easy access to a vast catalogue of new and archived content. Until now over 90 per cent of BBC programmes have been unavailable to buy once they had been transmitted. We’re at the beginning of an exciting journey to unlock the incredible BBC Television archive.”
