Mexico: Pay-TV in 18m homes

The latest statistics from Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) say that pay-TV subscriptions now top 18 million homes as at December 31st 2015.
This represents a 13 per cent uplift from the same period at the end of 2014.
Penetration is now 56 per cent of TV homes, helped by growth of some 750,000 net new subscribers in the September-December 2014 period.
DTH and IPTV (and a small number of MMDS) accounted for 57.1 per cent of the market while Cable TV had 42.9 per cent. In terms of the nation’s operators, Televisa Group was largely dominant with 60.2 per cent of the market share, Sky (the DirecTV joint-venture with AT&T) had 38.1 per cent, Cablemas 6.7 per cent, Cablevision 5.4 per cent, Cablecom 4.3 per cent, TVI 3 per cent and Cablevision Red 2.7 per cent. Dish-MVS had 16.8 per cent, Megacable 15.6 per cent, and other smaller operators 7.4 per cent.
