Emmett named Channel 4 News Deputy Editor
May 7, 2025

Channel 4 News has announced the appointment of Becky Emmett as Deputy Editor. She joins Channel 4 News from ITV News where she has headed its streaming division for ITVX since last July, having previously served as Acting Co-Editor and Deputy Editor at BBC’s Newsnight, where she helped lead the programme’s journalism from 2022.
Emmetty is already a well-known figure across Channel 4 and ITN. Her appointment marks a return to Channel 4 News, where she spent a decade in key leadership roles including Head of Home News and Programme Editor. She began her career as a trainee at ITV Central and went on to work at ITV London.
As Deputy Editor, Emmett will join the Channel 4 News senior leadership team, working alongside Editor Esme Wren to continue driving the brand’s editorial ambition and digital transition. She will help oversee the network’s multi-platform output – from its flagship daily broadcast bulletin for Channel 4, to its expanding digital division, and will work closely with teams across London, Leeds and its international offices.
Wren commented: “We’re thrilled to welcome Becky back to Channel 4 News. With a decade of experience here before her time at the BBC and ITV News, Channel 4 is truly in her DNA. Her return marks a powerful step forward as we continue the strong momentum of recent years. With exceptional digital and journalistic expertise, she will be instrumental in amplifying our trusted journalism, ensuring our content is reaching everyone, everywhere, and shaping our global voice through support to our fantastic teams here in the UK and internationally.”
Emmett succeeds Laura Wilshaw who left Channel 4 News earlier this year to become editor of ITV News.
Emmett added: “I’m excited to be returning to Channel 4 News at such a pivotal moment for global journalism. It’s an incredible opportunity to work alongside such a talented and inspiring team, as we navigate the evolving landscape of news and continue to provide the in-depth, trusted and impactful reporting that has always been the hallmark of Channel 4 News. I look forward to working with our teams internationally to innovate across the network’s outstanding multi-platform offer and uphold the highest standards of agenda-setting journalism for the years ahead.”
Emmett will join Channel 4 News this summer.
