Spain: Police bust major TV piracy group in Malaga
March 17, 2025
From David Del Valle in Madrid

A criminal family group in Malaga, in the south of Spain, dedicated to TV piracy, has been dismantled with the arrest of nine people who have defrauded an estimated €5 million+ in illegally distributing pay-TV signals.
The group operated a chain of companies that was receiving and managing illegal payments from users to gain heavily-discounted access to pay-TV content and channels. The illegal network was laundering the money through the acquisition of real estate properties with a value of more than €3.2 million.
Those arrested were using STBs with illegal software to grant access to pay-TV platforms through cardsharing servers. A police probe commenced in December 2023 following a complaint from EGEDA, the organisation that manages the rights of the Audiovisual Producers.
The police raid comes at a time when La Liga and Spanish telcos are pointedly cracking down on TV piracy in the country.
