Turnpost launches from stealth
June 20, 2024
Turnpost has launched out of stealth with details about its pending new AI-infused platform for 21st century video content production across film, streaming and network television content. The company has raised $1 million in an early friends and family round led by entertainment and technology angel investor Earl Jarred.
As of launch, three Hollywood feature films in development have already committed to adopting the macOS-based solution in 2025. Acclaimed producer Andy Horwitz of Dark Night, Suicide Squad and American Hustle fame is using it on his next two projects as well as one production company working on a film biopic / adventure of the discovery of the North Pole (this company prefers to remain anonymous until greenlight).
Turnpost is specifically addressing the oft-maligned, cumbersome and resource-wasting production pipeline, which is traditionally deployed in long-form content creation for film, episodic and streaming. This early 20th century production methodology results in a pipeline that has difficulty moving creative data points from downstream to upstream in an efficient and useful manner.
Turnpost’s design and incorporation of the latest AI functionality allows for early decision making, mitigating downstream risks, and increasing time in development and pre-production as opposed to fixing everything in post – all without impacting the human creative process.
The Turnpost platform is solving a multitude of challenges based on leveraging these technologies in a way that is not disruptive to creative efforts by staff or outside teams. The company has developed a holistic approach to asset management, collaboration, security, budgeting and multi-modal progressive refinement within its ‘Living Storyboard’ framework.
Ingesting and comprehending scripts and generating and controlling generative assets both audio dialog and visuals, the Living Storyboard allows you to progressively refine and edit all assets using multi-modal methods. The collaboration tools allow for large teams to work within the confines of Turnpost using both version control and management systems.
The innovative ‘progressive refinement’ approach with Turnpost’s control systems allow for progressively adding granular details to the scenes and shots, such as costume design, locations, shot angles, light, movement and actors/characters. The platform will also include temporal comprehension, so that if something changes in one scene, all other scenes at the same time and location will be updated automatically.
“With the launch of Turnpost, the standard response of ‘fix it in post’ will become a bad memory of the past,” said Tom Granberg, CEO of Turnpost. “All of our team comes from the Hollywood mainstream and all of us have suffered in the past with the deficiencies of the old way of production – shooting multiple takes of a scene hoping to get the perfect shot, trying to fix out-of-control production and post costs, and more. We have created a platform to be used and appreciated as much by the production team as the creative – our AI is a tool for the creative process, never a replacement for it.”
