June 12, 2024
BBC Factual has commissioned an eighth season of the critically acclaimed Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing for BBC Two and iPlayer.
The popular series, produced by Owl Power, will see Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse exploring more of the UK’s beautiful countryside, enjoying more laughs, capers and candid and heartfelt chats as they continue to fish more lakes, rivers and canals across the UK.
The 6 x 30 season will have even more of a personal edge, with each fishing location chosen by its relevance to Mortimer or Whitehouse personally, following the broad journeys of their lives.
Each episode takes a wide ranging theme about life which Mortimer and Whitehouse discuss, often sharing very personal insights and experiences with each other.
Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing is one of the strongest brands on BBC Two, with more than a fifth of the viewers of the last series watching it on iPlayer The Christmas special was also a huge hit making it the fourth biggest factual series on the channel in the last 12 months.
The seventh season, which is due to air later this year expanded its run to eight episodes for the first time, with the friends’ excursions seeing them visit Bedfordshire, North Norfolk and Northern Ireland.
Whitehouse commented: “I can’t wait to get back to Gone Fishing with that other bloke in tow,” with Mortimer adding: “I’m looking forward to visiting old haunts from my younger years as Paul and I will be travelling back in time for this series, going to fish in places which shaped our lives.”
BBC Commissioning Editor Patrick McMahon, said: “We’re so happy to welcome Paul and Bob back for another slice of fishing, friendship and riverbank philosophy. Following their adventures and spending time in their company is always a treat, and this series promises to be the most personal and pleasurable yet”.
Executive Producer, Lisa Clark, added: “I’m so delighted we can continue to showcase our beautiful country in the company of Paul, Bob and Ted of course. There’s so much more to explore for both man and beast with plenty of muck for Ted to roll in and Bob to fall over, while Paul quietly concentrates on the fishing in hand.”
All seasons of Gone Fishing are available to view now on BBC iPlayer.
