Cellnex fined €13.7m for abuse of position

From David Del Valle in Madrid

Spanish telco provider, Cellnex Telecom, will have to pay a €13.7 million fine imposed by regulator CNMC for the abuse of its dominant position in the distribution of DTT signals.
The Spanish court Audiencia Nacional has ratified the sanction after Cellnex’s appeal before the Supreme Court that obliged a recalculation of the fine amount.
A CNMC fine was imposed in 2012 against the former Abertis Telecom, and now Cellnex Telecom, for hindering competition in the DTT distribution market as a result of its dominant position.
The company challenged CNMC’s resolution in court with the final ruling now coming from the Audiencia Nacional.
The company is also facing another fine for €18.7 million imposed in 2009 with an initial amount of €22.7 million, then reduced to that former amount for the same reasons.
