MultiChoice Nigeria hikes prices

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced an upward review of prices on its DStv and GOtv packages. According to a message to customers, the new rates will begin from May 1st. The pay-TV operator said the price adjustment was due to the rising costs of business operations.
The new price rises by 17 per cent and is set as N24,000 (€47 per month), but those renewing ahead of the May 1st deadline can retain the current monthly rate of N21,000 provided they pay now and before their due date.
The offer, which is meant to cushion the effect of the price review, allows customers to pay the old rates for 12 months, if they pay monthly before the expiration of their subscriptions. Similarly, it grants subscribers (who pay for one year at a go, before the new prices kick in) the opportunity to pay the old tariffs.
But the rates are upsetting locals who are comparing the price charged in some adjacent markets. For example, MultiChoice Kenya subscribers will pay the equivalent of €30 or those in South Africa €44.
