Replay, Theta Network introduce NFT-gating for video monetisation

April 19, 2023

Replay, the blockchain platform reimagining video for Web3, has announced new NFT-gating video capabilities powered by Theta Network, the blockchain infrastructure for media. In line with NAB 2023, Replay now empowers streaming services, FAST channel owners and media brands to lock video behind an NFT experience compatible with any smart TV or device. Whether offering exclusive live streams or a whole video library, Replay provides simple web3 monetisation, distribution and syndication.

Leading video apps on smart TVs, mobile and web can now easily issue digital collectibles (NFTs) through Replay. Replay Digital Collectibles act as tradable, ownable, re-sellable keys to video content. In 2022, Replay introduced this content model with a successful NFT sale in partnership with FlixFling, offering their subscription library as a bundled purchase.

Want to drive ad revenue to your video library, but remove ads for your most dedicated collectible holders? With Replay’s game-ified content platform, Replay Dash, any combination of AVoD, SVoD or free video can be locked behind an NFT. Already issue an NFT to your biggest fans? Replay levels-up existing NFTs too, enabling web3 collections and media brands to keep their communities engaged with easily customisable badges, missions and rewards.

“Content creators of all kinds are increasingly looking to connect more with their fans, and we’re happy to enable that with our flexible NFT content model,” said Krish Arvapally, CEO of Replay. “Whether you’re a niche streaming service offering paid access to large libraries or an influencer or streamer offering bonus content to your ‘patrons’, we’re continuing to see video owners turn to digital collectibles as they look to give their audience more access and more stake in their community.”

Video locked behind Replay NFTs is powered by Theta Network’s authentication and peer-to-peer content delivery. Additionally, the Replay tracking protocol, which operates on a THETA subchain, monitors every minute of play to offer content owners nearly real-time video analytics. As a pioneer of Theta’s Metachain scaling architecture, Replay is preparing to launch its own Theta subchain in Q2, further showcasing Theta’s influence in driving advancements in decentralised video technology.

“Replay’s disruptive approach to the streaming wars perfectly aligns with Theta blockchain’s purpose-built video infrastructure,” said Mitch Liu, CEO of Theta Labs “Through this partnership, we can empower video apps and streaming services to easily integrate decentralised token-gated video, allowing them to curate and package content in innovative ways while increasing monetisation and engagement. We are excited to be at the forefront of bringing web3 disruption to the video industry, and we look forward to continuing to work together to push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
