Netflix has picked up The Electric State, an adaptation of the illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, from independent studio AGBO – founded by Joe and Anthony Russo, the visionary directors behind several Marvel movies including Avengers: Endgame.
The movie, set in a retro-futuristic past, will tell the story of an orphaned teenager (portrayed by Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown) who traverses the American West with a mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter in search of her younger brother.
The Electric State continues the Russo Brothers and AGBO’s successful partnership with Netflix following the 2020 release of Chris Hemsworth movie Extraction and recently completed principal photography on Extraction 2, as well as The Gray Man starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
Production on The Electric State is set to begin this autumn.
