Water caused Bilsdale TV fire

The fire at the giant Arqiva-owned Bilsdale TV and radio transmission mast in North Yorkshire – that wiped out TV signals for more than a half-million homes – was caused by water entering an electrical unit.
The fire happened on August 10th 2021 and affected one of the most powerful TV towers in the UK.
Arqiva says that a combination of factors has meant that the various investigations have taken many months to complete including difficult weather conditions and site safety rules.
It took until October 13th last year for a temporary (80m) mast to be activated, and a complete replacement will not be in place much before the end of this year.
