Six register for South Africa spectrum auction

Six telcos have formally applied for to take part in the upcoming spectrum being auctioned by South Africa’s government.
The timetable closed on January 31st and six players had entered the auction line-up.
They are:
· Cell C
· Liquid Intelligent Technologies
· MTN
· Rain
· Telkom
· Vodacom
Telkom is still involved in litigation and is arguing against the establishment of the auction.
Qualifying bidders will be announced on February 21st.
“This will mark the next critical milestone in the effort of the authority to finally release this much-needed economic stimulus input,” the ICASA regulator said in a statement.
ICASA chairman Keabetswe Modimoeng urged all the role players “to align their interests with their patriotic spirit, and allow this critical regulatory intervention to be completed”.
