CBS scores Italian football rights in US
March 25, 2021
CBS will be the new US home of Italian football having beaten ESPN to the rights.
CBS will hold the rights to Serie A and Coppa Italia games from next season for three years. The games will be shown on CBS Sports as well as the Paramount+ streaming platform.
The financial terms of the deal were not made public, but reports suggest that the agreement is worth around €64 million a year – a 30 per cent increase on the previous deal with ESPN.
Luigi De Siervo, the chief executive of Lega Serie A, commented: “Today is not a point of arrival, but rather the beginning of a path of investment in human resources and editorial content functional to support the constant growth of Serie A throughout North America. This result is the fruit of the work of the last 18 months and the ever-increasing number of American properties that have decided to invest in our franchises.”
