Andy Bird CBE is the new CEO at publisher Pearson.
Bird is well known in media circles thanks to his roles heading up Disney’s international businesses as Chairman from 2004, and prior to that his time at Time Warner as SVP/General manager of Turner Entertainment. In 2000 he became president of TBS International.
Pearson has been looking for a new CEO since incumbent John Fallon announced his retirement last December.
A note to clients from equity analysts at Deutsche Bank says: “Over the past decade, Pearson has placed a great amount of emphasis on going digital, with limited success so far – and given the new CEO’s experience here, we think today’s announcement will be taken positively, although investors will be keen to find out if a significant shake-up in strategy is on the horizon. Outgoing CEO John Fallon will serve as an advisor until the end of this year.”
