An Echostar subsidiary which often gets overlooked in the general rush of Echostar and Dish Network news and results is Hughes Network Systems.
Indeed, most of Echostar’s uptick in revenues ($45 million for the quarter, up 10 per cent) were down to a very healthy contribution from Hughes (Q4 of $492 million, up 10.6 per cent).
Hughes recorded 1.477 million broadband-by-satellite subscribers at the end of 2019 which included 237,000 in Central and South America.
Hughes provides Community WiFi as well as individual and business connectivity, and also has government and defense contracts in place. It can supply connectivity right across the US (including Alaska and Puerto Rico).
