Spain, with 24 5G projects under way, is the European country with the largest number of initiatives to implement the 5G technology in Europe, according to the Minister of Economy, Nadia Calviño.
The Minister presented a new 5G pilot in Seville, in Andalucia, called 5G Andalucia, carried out by Vodafone and Chinese firm Huawei, set to be the second biggest in the country along with the project in Galicia with a combined investment of €25.4 million.
Vodafone is investing €1.8 million in the 5G Andalucia project with tests in 32 Andalucian provinces and with 11 public entities and 29 enterprises being involved in the initiative.
“Spain keeps on leading the digital development mainly thanks to our leadership in optic fibre”, said Calviño adding that June 2020, coinciding with the end of the DTT migration, will see the deployment of 5G operators which will be called by the beginning of 2020 to bid for the 5G licences.
