Pan-African pay-TV operator MultiChoice is to cut its subscription fees for Uganda residents, and will extend to Kenya and Tanzania and potentially other East African customers.
Its DStv Premium, top-tier bundle, will fall from 280,000 Uganda Shillings (€68.5) to 219,000 Shillings per month. There are similar cuts to its Compact, Compact Plus, and Family tiers. The very basic DStv Access tier stays fixed at 33,000 per month.
Other Premium add-ons also fall, with the Asian bundle reduced to 237,000 Shillings while a French-language add-on, previously levied at 410,000 falls to 349,000 a month.
Reportedly, the new prices are effective from September 1st.
DStv is highly-regarded as the pioneer of high-quality entertainment especially sport. But it is expensive in comparison with its newer DTH and DTT rivals which a taking valuable slices of DStv’s core clients.
