Norigin Media open sources parts of TV App framework
June 25, 2019
Norigin Media, a Scandinavian TV tech company, has open sourced parts of its tech framework for building TV Apps. This open source initiative aims to increase the quality of software across the streaming industry, and encourage broadcasters to work together by reusing common code.
Norigin Media builds TV Apps for many leading broadcasters and Pay TV operators, using its TV App framework. The modular architecture contains several independent UI components, some of which use open source code written by others. The company is now contributing its own code to the open source community in an effort to reduce fragmentation and encourage reuse of quality code across Smart TV development projects.
“We are keen to take a central role within the TV tech industry by providing neutral technologies and architectures. Open sourcing is advantageous since it gives broadcasters flexibility and ownership of the technologies chosen by companies such as ourselves. Norigin Media has many initiatives towards unifying the fragmented industry and calls for all key players to participate,” says Ajey Anand, CEO of Norigin Media.
Norigin Media has published its first open source project about spatial navigation for remote controls on Smart TVs, which can be found on Github along with documentation.
