Airbus Defence & Space has won orders for three geostationary satellites.
In a complex series of contracts, two of the orders are carried out with Thales Alenia Space and the end customer is Spain’s Ministry of Defence. The third craft is for Malaysia’s Measat commercial operator.
The orders were extremely well received by the industry as a whole given that last year there were only 10 similar satellites ordered in total.
Other orders are reported to be pending, including at least two satellites for Inmarsat.
Airbus says it expects to deliver four geostationary satellites this year including Telstar-16 for AT&T/DirecTV, Eutelsat’s 5WB, and two military craft (possibly for Egypt).
