Amazon adds WTA Tour tennis rights
May 20, 2019
Amazon has secured the rights to the WTA Tour for the UK market according to reports. The rights for the UK market were held by BT Sport, and have been since 2013.
Amazon already holds the rights for the ATP Tour and the US Open but does not have the rights for any of the other three Grand Slams as of yet.
Amazon bid for Wimbledon last year for the UK market and German market but their offer was rejected by the All England Club.
Eurosport and ITV currently hold the rights for the Australian and French Opens respectively and it is strongly rumoured that Amazon will bid for these in the future. The company has also spoken of plans to launch a dedicated online l tennis channel in the future.
