Spain: Cellnex pitches Vodafone and Orange alliance

Spain’s broadcasting agency Cellnex is seeking an alliance with Vodafone and Orange and their shared networks. Cellnex has offered to manage the operators’ towers and networks to “monetise” the shared networks and boost the 5G take-up.
Tobías Martínez, CEO of Cellnex, said that it would be the “necessary partner” for them to avoid duplication (in towers) and “generate a more attractive value”.
He added: “An agreement to share networks does not give value by its own and an external operator may be able to release resources that they can invest in their core businesses. We are an accelerator of the capacity of building infrastructures”.
Martínez pointed out that the telco operators must be focused now on the integration of the networks to develop 5G and then “the sector trend points to the need (for) an external partner to manage it”.
