France: Over 8bn catch-up TV requests in 2018

The French catch-up TV market continues to grow and saw 8.1 billion videos requested in 2018 – an increase of 17.4 per cent over one year.
According to the CNC annual replay TV report, catch-up TV viewing has tripled over the last 5 years. The highest month on record was October 2018 with 818 million videos requested. Over the full year, there was an average of 22.2 millions videos viewed each day across the replay services of the 23 channels analysed.
In 2018, an average of 23,034 hours of catch-up content was available online each month, which was 2.9 per cent down on 2017.
Soem 77.5 per cent of internet users aged 15 and above used a catch-up service last year. Just over 55 per cent used a catch-up service weekly, whilst 12 per cent used one daily.
The TV set remains the most used screen for viewing, accounting for for 78.6 per cent of the users. TF1 shows are the most requested.
