Spain: Pay-TV nears 7m subs

Spanish pay-TV has maintained strong growth with 6.8 million pay-TV subscribers at the end of 2018, according to the latest data from CNMC.
In the last quarter of 2018, pay-TV services gained 87,000 customers on the previous quarter. Some 91.8 per cent of all pay-TV subscribers are subscribed to a convergent package.
In terms of revenues, pay-TV reached €553.4 million in the fourth quarter with IP and streaming experiencing the largest growth, at €385.7 million and €13.4 million respectively.
Cable with €43.4 million (€72.9 million in 2017 Q4) and satellite with €110.9 million (€128 million in 2017 Q4) registered lower revenues than the same period last year.
Total TV Ad revenues amounted to €647.1 million in Q4 with pay TV taking 5.8 per cent and FTA TV 94.2 per cent.
In the last quarter, Spaniards spent an average of 3 hours and 39 minutes a day watching TV, mainly DTT with 76.3 per cent. IP and cable pay-TV took a 21.3 per cent share and DTH 2.4 per cent.
