Canal+ preps SVoD CanalPlay relaunch

French pay-TV group Canal+ is planning to relaunch CanalPlay, its SVoD service, in the spring, focusing on TV series and documentaries to attract a young audience.
According to financial daily Les Echos, the platform, which has not been operational for the last year, is set to be revamped under a new name and at a €10 monthly fee. The group has decided to seize the opportunity provided by last summer’s authorisation courtesy of the Competition Authority for Canal+ to offer exclusive content in its VoD library.
Six months ago Maxime Saada, chair of the Canal+, declared in a public hearing at the French Senate that the service was closed after it fell from 800,000 to 200,000 users. The pay-TV operator seemingly considers it is not too late to roll the dice again and attemt to make the service a success.
