Spain: Movistar adds 268,000 pay-TV subs
August 24, 2018
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Telefónica’s pay-TV platform Movistar Plus gained 268,000 pay-TV subscribers in 12 months (June 2017 – June 2018) giving it a total of 3.9 million subscribers – some distance ahead of its main rivals.
Orange added 98,000 pay TV subscribers in the same period, giving it a total of 639,000 whereas Vodafone only added 43,000 to 1.3 million.
In the last quarter, pay-TV subscriber additions were quite moderate for Movistar, adding 7,000 subscribers. However, Orange and Vodafone lost pay-TV customers – 2,000 and 32,000 respectively. Vodafone’s big loss can be attributed to the fact it no longer holds the rights to show La Liga football.
