July 26, 2018
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spain’s dominant telcos – Telefonica, Orange and Vodafone – have taken all the 5G spectrum on auction in Spain for €437 million, four times more than the initial price. MásMóvil withdrew from the auction by acquiring directly 80 MHz from other operators.
Vodafone has bought 90 MHz of the 5G spectrum for €198.1 million, followed by Orange with 60 MHz for €132 million and Telefonica 50 MHz for €107.5 million.
The Administration will get €542 million (as a result of interest payments) for the spectrum plus the spectrum tax of €868.5 million making a total of €1,41 billion in 20 years.
The auction included 200 MHz in the frequency band of 3.6-3.8 GHz divided into 5MHz blocks.
