Walmart plotting SVoD service?
July 18, 2018
US retail giant Walmart is reportedly considering a move into the SVoD market to take on the likes of Netflix and Hulu, according to a report by The Information.
The report suggests Walmart is considering introducing a streaming-service priced at $8 per month (less than Netflix) as well as launching a free, ad-supported model.
Netflix and its nearest rivals “are seen as more popular with people on the East and West Coasts of the US,” according to a unnamed source quoted by The Information, and Walmart believes there’s an opportunity to roll out a cheaper service for consumers “in the middle of America”.
