Spain: Sony pulls out of FTA DTT market
June 12, 2018
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Sony has reportedly ruled out breaking into Spain’s FTA DTT market in light of the low audience the new DTT operators are attracting, and the weak ad revenues.
The company had been negotiating with TEN and Trece over the last months to launch a channel or partially distribute its content through a DTT channel. But, the negotiations have failed and Sony has decided to remain solely on pay-TV with AXN and AXN White.
The new DTT channels have failed to achieve even a 1 per cent audience share (TEN, 0.3 per cent in May) and TV ad growth remains flat (just 1 per cent up in 2017).
