Spain: Pay-TV 41% penetration by 2021

Pay-TV is increasingly gaining ground in Spain with more and more penetration, rising from 23 per cent in 2012 to 33 per cent in 2016 and 41 per cent in 2021, according to the Conecta 2018. Pay TV in Spain report from Deloitte.
The report reveals that between 2012 and 2016 pay-TV increased its number of subscribers from 4.2 million to 6.1 million subscribers. OTT operators like Netflix, HBO or Amazon had a combined 1.8 million subscribers in 2017.
In terms of audience share, pay-TV channels had a share of 5.6 per cent in 2013 versus 7.8 per cent in 2017.
The report points out that pay-TV channels are increasingly relying on in-house productions to capture subscribers with over 3,000 hours in Spain in 2016.
Pay-TV revenues grew by 13 per cent between 2012 and 2016 from €1.6 billion to over €1.8 billion. In 2016, pay-TV revenues represented 34 per cent of the total audiovisual sector that amounted to €5.55 billion.
