Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim Al Thani, speaking in Indonesia where he is currently on a visit, was highly critical of the recent move by Egypt to further escalate the already wounding diplomatic row with Qatar.
Egypt, along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE have already cut all diplomatic and trade links with Qatar. On October 17th it emerged that Egypt had alleged that beIN Sport was involved in “monopolistic” practices and had repeatedly violated Egypt’s competition laws.
Saudi Arabia and Egypt are still demanding that Al Jazeera be closed down. Al Jazeera is best described as a ‘sister’ broadcaster to beIN Sports in Qatar.
